A Rock 'n Roll star as an comedian? Chuck Berry did it with "My-Ding-A-Ling" in 1972. While many rock scholars dismiss this song as a senseless novelty ditty, Berry is quite proud of the song. Not without any reasons. This "novelty ditty" about a young boy who discovered his penis, is his only #1 hit in the UK, Ireland, Canada and the US and beside of this he did like to bring smile on faces. Although Berry is credited as the composer, Dave Bartholomew (best known as Fats Domino's collaborator) claimed authorship of the song, as he released the similar-sounding "Little Girl Sing Ding-a-Ling" in 1952. The video is taken from Chuck Berry's rock concert in the Shepherd's Bush Empire (BBC Television Theater) The audio of the song was recorded live at the Coventry Lanchester Polytechnic, Coventry, Warwickshire, England as part of the Lanchester Arts Festival. "My Ding-A-Ling" did not stormed other charts in Europe, probably people did not understand the humor (due to a lack of language skills?)
